At the end of my last post, I had completed the base of this project, with my hymn pages applied to the canvas. To prepare for the paint, I used a fine grit sandpaper to rough up the mod podge coating a bit, and dusted it off with an almost dry rag. The next thing for me to do was decide what I wanted to put on top of it. Psalm 108:1 is a verse that really resonates with me, and has for a long time, and so I figured it would go very well with the theme of this piece.
Since I am not the best at free handing letters, and I didn't want to end up with crooked lines, I used a soft lead pencil and traced the outline of each letter on the back of the paper, then put them back in their place on the canvas. I then used a harder pencil to scribble over each letter and the lead from the back transferred onto the canvas. It was quite faint but it was just enough to then fill in with black acrylic paint. | |
I did two coats of the black paint, let it sit over night, then finished it off with a final coat of mod podge, and voila!
